Mini Project Ideas for Electronics Engineering

It is a common question during your first or second year engineering that which mini project should we do so that it will be useful in our day to day life and we will also get its output without too many efforts. So here are some electronics mini project ideas for electronics engineering students.

Mini Project Ideas Using IC 555 (Timer IC)

  • Mobile incoming call indicator: This is one of the most attractive and useful mini projects in electronics. It uses an inductor coil which acts as an antenna for the mobile incoming call and operates other circuitry which will glow a LED or buzzer when you are receiving any mobile call. Check the details of this project here.
  • Fire alarm circuit using IC 555: This is one of the best mini projects which most of the student would like to do as their first mini project. In this project, we are using 555 timer IC along with thermistor. The thermistor is used to detect the fire. For more details of this project click here.
  • Water level indicator Alarm circuit: Another simple but useful mini project is water level indicator. In this project, we are using one buzzer which will generate sound as an alarm when a water level reaches a particular level. The cost of this project is very low and you can check its details here.
  • Night lamp using 555: in this project, a bulb (CFL or any other) is used which turns on in the night automatically and get turns off when there is sufficient light in the room.
  • Reminder alarm using IC 555: This mini project generates reminder using a buzzer after some specified time interval. IC CD4017 is used in this project which will start counting and after some time will give the signal to the buzzer for alarm.

Mini Project Ideas Using DTMF IC

Before reading following project ideas, I will recommend seeing a DTMF project which will produce a BCD value of pressed mobile number. By using this output you can do following mini projects easily.

  • DTMF Based home automation system: in this project we can operate home appliances using our mobile phone. When we press different numbers on the mobile keypad it will operate different electrical types of equipment like a fan, bulb, etc. Click here to know more about this project.
  • DTMF Based Electronic Voting Machine: This is one of the best projects for second or third year engineering students. In this project, you can do voting using your mobile phone.
  • DTMF based water pump controller: This is also one good mini project idea for electronics engineering students. You can operate your water pump using your mobile phone. Now there is no need to go to the place where the motor is mounted just call from your mobile and press assigned number it will on or off motor automatically.

Mobile Incoming Call Indicator: Electronics Mini Project

Hello friends, are you searching for one good mini project for your submissions? If your answer is yes, then your search will end here. Today I am going to make a circuit that will indicate an incoming or outgoing call or message from your mobile phone. Yes, you can do such awesome mini project with some simple electrical components within no time. Let us start making our “Mobile incoming call indicator” mini project.

Components Used

  • IC 1 = NE555 (Timer IC)
  • Resistors
  • Capacitors
  • Transistor : Q1 = BC548
  • LED
  • 6V DC Battery
  • Diode: 1N5819

Description

In this mini project, we are going to make a simple circuit that will detect a mobile phone. In this mini project, we have used a LED which will glow instantaneously when a mobile phone rings.

Whenever your mobile phone receive an incoming call, it will activate a transistor in the circuit. The coil L1 acts as an antenna which will sense the oscillations. These oscillations then are given to the base of transistor Q1 thus activating the transistor. As the output of transistor i.e. collector is connected to the IC 555 which get triggered and glows the LED connected to its output pin. Thus when LED glows we can conclude that there is an incoming call surrounding the circuit.

Notes

  • In this mini project, we have used a 6 Volt DC power supply.
  • Build a circuit on a PCB (See: How to make PCB layout in Eagle software).
  • C1 & C3 are to be polyester capacitors.
  • The electrolytic capacitor C2 must be rated 10V.

Water Level Indicator Circuit: Electromics Mini Project

Today we are going to make a project which will detect the preset water level and when water is reached to this level it will generate a sound.

Objective:

The objective of Water Level Alarm Circuit is to generate a sound with the help of buzzer when a water level in a tank reached to its preset level (Predefined mark).

Components Required:

Following are the required components for making water level alarm circuit:

  1. IC NE555 (Timer IC)
  2. Resistors: R1 = 1K; R2 = 100K;
  3. Capacitor: C1 = 2.2uF (15V)
  4. Buzzer
  5. 3V DC battery

Description of Water Level Indicator

Here is the simple water level alarm circuit using 555 timer IC which will produce an audible sound when the water level reaches to its preset level. This circuit uses 3V DC power supply. Therefore this circuit is quite handy to use.

This circuit of water level alarm is based on the astable multivibrator which is wired around IC1 (NE555). The operating frequency of this astable multivibrator depends upon the values of capacitor C1, resistors R1 and R2 and the resistance across probes at A and B. when there is no water up to the level of probes, because of open circuit astable multivibrator will not produce any oscillations hence the circuit will not produce sound. When the water reaches the level of probes, the circuit will be completed and some current flows through the water. Thus astable multivibrator produces oscillations proportional to the values of C, R1, R2 and the resistance across the probes. Now the buzzer will beep to indicate that the water is reached to its preset level.

Notes

  •  Probes can be made of two insulated copper or aluminum wires.
  •  Preset level means the level that you want to detect the water in the tank.
  •  Place the probes to a preset level, so that it will close the path and generates sound using the buzzer.
